Hey there! Want to make some extra cash? Do you have some free time during the day? Do you already have a pressure washer collecting dust in the shed? With a little elbow grease and advertising you can get an easy side hustle started. Here are 10 ways to make money with a pressure washer.

1. Washing Homes.

Homeowners always need washing services, and I will be listing a few here. Washing the home itself is clearly first on the list. Make sure your pressure washer has at least 2000 PSI and a 25-foot hose.

To find clients, start with your friends and family or print some fliers and post them in your neighborhood. You can also advertise on websites like Angie's List or Thumbtack. You can also contact local property management companies, home owner's associations, or real estate agents. Once you've got a client, it's time to get to work!

First, prep the area by removing anything that might get damaged. Then cover any delicate plants or objects that can't be removed with plastic. Next, start at the top of the house and work your way down. Use a wide fan nozzle and low pressure to avoid damaging the siding. Use an attachment or spray bottle to apply cleaning solution. Finally, after letting the soap sit for a few minutes, go back over with a thorough rinse. Remove any leftover soap or debris.

Here are a few items that can help you get the job done:

  • Sun Joe SPX3000 Pressure Washer: This is a powerful pressure washer with a 2030 PSI and a 14.5-amp/1800-Watt motor.

  • Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner: This is an eco-friendly and non-toxic cleaner that is safe to use on most surfaces.

  • Plastic Sheeting: Use plastic sheeting to cover any delicate plants or objects near the house to protect them from the pressure washer's spray.

2. Decks, Patios, and Driveways

While you're at the client's home, why not offer additional services? The more services you provide, the more money you can make. A pressure washer with the right attachments and chemicals can be great at removing oil stains, or applying a wood stain to a deck. The pressure washer is also a great tool for cleaning outdoor furniture and patio awnings. Just follow the same procedure as washing the house itself, a gentle spray with the appropriate cleaner, then rinse away with high pressure as needed.

Note: You might expect to see roof cleaning and moss removal here. We did not include it for a reason. High pressure from a pressure washer can damage roof shingles by blasting away the granules. You can use a pressure washer on a low setting to apply a moss removing chemical, but that is all we recommend.

3. Clearing out Gutters

Now technically you don't actually need a pressure washer to clear out gutters, although sometimes sending a hose through a downspout can be great (more on that later). However, as with the previous point, it is an additional service that you might as well offer while you are at the client's house anyway. Here's what you do.

All you need is a sturdy ladder, gloves, a small trowel or scoop, and a bucket. Clear any debris or objects from around the gutters, especially where you will place your ladder. You don't want that tipping over. Climb up on the ladder and begin scooping out any debris, such as leaves, twigs, or dirt, from the gutters. Be sure to wear gloves to protect your hands. Then, gather up all the gunk and dispose of it properly. You can bag it up and place it in the trash or compost it. Finally, rinse out the gutters with a garden hose or pressure washer to remove any remaining debris.

Here are a few items that can help you get the job done:

  • Louisville Ladder FS1508 Fiberglass Step Ladder: This is a sturdy ladder that can safely support up to 300 pounds.

  • G & F Products Waterproof Winter Gloves: These gloves are perfect for protecting your hands from debris and cold weather.

  • Gutter Getter Scoop: This is a specialized scoop that is designed to easily remove debris from gutters.

4. Mobile Car Washing and Detailing

Everyone likes a clean car, especially dealerships and commercial fleets. You can even set up shop in the parking lot of large apartment complexes!

All you need is a pressure washer, a water tank (if there is nowhere to hook up a hose), and some cleaning supplies. The cleaning supplies can range from basic to professional depending on how much detailing you want to do. For instance a good buffer can enable to offer car waxing as an additional service.

Start by spraying down the car with low pressure to remove any loose dirt or debris. Then apply a soap solution and use a soft sponge or mitt to scrub down the car.

Finally, use the pressure washer to rinse off the soap and any remaining dirt or debris. Dry the car with a microfiber towel to avoid any water spots. You can then offer to clean the interior, detail the engine, or wax the car as additional services. Always offer a complimentary air freshener for that extra touch.

Here are a few products that can help you get the job done:

  • Sun Joe SPX3000 Pressure Washer: This is a powerful and affordable pressure washer with a 2030 PSI and a 14.5-amp/1800-Watt motor.

  • NorthStar High-Pressure Water Pump: This is a reliable and efficient water pump that can help you transport water to your mobile car washing location.

  • Chemical Guys Honeydew Snow Foam Car Wash Soap and Cleanser: This is a high-quality and gentle car wash soap that produces a thick foam and won't damage your car's paint.

5. Washing Commercial Buildings

As with homeowners, business owners are always in need of cleaning services. There are dozens of ways to get commercial clients. You can advertise on Craig's List. You can find websites that allow you to bid on local jobs and contracts. There's Angie's List and Thumbtack again, and of course, cold calling and in person visits. The nice thing about commercial clients is that they usually pay more and give more repeat business. So go out and hustle up some clients and get to work!

For commercial jobs you're going to want a higher quality pressure washer. You want at least 3,000 PSI and a heavy duty 30 foot hose. You'll also probably want a water tank to increase your mobility and flexibility.

6. Window Washing, Parking Lots, Graffiti Removal, and Roofs

With commercial properties there are many alternative or additional services you can provide. Perhaps a business doesn't need the entire building cleaned, but wants regular window cleaning. Perhaps, with the mobility of a water tank, you can offer to spray down their large parking lot, removing weeds, even as part of a repainting job. Perhaps you get the right chemicals and specialize in expert graffiti removal. Commercial buildings usually have flat roofs and no shingles, so a pressure washer is perfect for regular roof cleanings. There are tons of potential services to offer.

7. Cleaning Boats and Docks

If you didn't already know this, boats and docks get real nasty. Hit up the local marina and get your hustle on!

8. Construction Site Cleanup

If you didn't already know this, construction sites are real nasty. They need to be cleaned. This can also include the cleaning of industrial equipment, heavy machinery, and other tools. If you specialize in using your pressure washer to clean up construction sites, it might just become more than a side hustle.

9. Cleaning Statues and Monuments

This one is all about making the right connections to find the right clients, but if you can find those connections then you can add regular cleaning jobs to your task list for consistent side hustle income.

10. Jetting out Sewer Lines

This one is for the more advanced side hustle and pressure washer. If you can get the necessary attachments and connect with plumbers, you can offer this specialized service. Essentially you add a special nozzle and extremely long hose to the end of your pressure washer. You snake that nozzle down a sewer line as far as the main line, using high pressure jets of water to blast away clogs and debris. This is a common service offered to restaurants who get grease and food clogs in their systems. Also, there are many gutter downspouts that run directly into a sewer line. You can then run your special nozzle through the downspout all the way through the sewer. Plumbers can charge something in the range of $3,000 for this service, so although it might be difficult to find clients, it's worth looking into.

So, there you have, side hustlers, the top ten ways to make money with a pressure washer! And there are certainly other tasks that we missed. If you've got the drive, this should be enough information to get you started on a lucrative side hustle.
